① Sensoji's proper name is 金龍山浅草寺 or "Golden Dragon temple Sensoji"

② Unlike Western dragons, Japanese dragons are considered as water dragons which are believed to protect wooden buildings from fires.

③ Since almost of all Japanese buildings were built of wood in old days they get fire very easily.   People always feared fires and rely on gods which protect them from fires.

① Swastika sign or Manji in Japanese has been the symbol of Buddhist temples in Japan since Buddhism was introduced from India to Japan in 6th century.  

② Swastika sign means auspicious and had been used in many countries and cultures as a symbol of good fortune and happiness until Nazi started use it.

③ Although many westerners may feel unconfortable or disliking when they see a swastika, Japanese people never associate it with Nazis but with temples.
